Tax reduction

Your €100 gift costs you €34

Remember Me France is recognised as serving the public interest. Every donation gives a 66% reduction on French income tax. Here is the exact rule, with nothing hidden.

How the reduction works

This is not a deduction from your income, it is a direct reduction of your tax. The French state covers 66% of your gift.

1

66% of your donation

This is the rate for public interest organisations, set by article 200 of the French tax code. It applies to every euro given.

2

Up to 20% of your taxable income

Beyond that ceiling nothing is lost: the excess carries forward over the next 5 years, at the same rate.

3

An automatic tax receipt

It arrives by email as soon as you give online. Keep it or attach it, depending on what your tax return requires.

What each amount really costs you

On the left what the shelter receives. On the right what remains yours to pay after the reduction.

Monthly gifts give exactly the same rights. What counts is the total given during the year.

Why 66% and not 75%

You may have read that a donation gives a 75% reduction. That is true, but not for animal welfare.

The 75% rate is reserved for organisations helping people in hardship and victims of violence, up to €2,000 a year. Remember Me France falls under the general regime, at 66%.

We would rather tell you plainly than leave it vague. The figure on your tax notice will indeed be 66%.

Giving from Belgium

The Belgian regime is different, and it does apply to a French association. Here is exactly what it says.

Tax reduction

30%

Rate in force since 1 January 2025. It was 45% before that.

Yearly minimum

€40

Per association, across all your gifts in the year.

Ceiling

10% of net income

Or €408,130 if that amount is higher, for the 2025 and 2026 tax years.

A French association qualifies

The Belgian reduction also covers institutions established in another European Economic Area state. Remember Me France falls within that scope.

What you need to keep on your side

The Belgian authorities ask the donor to keep proof of payment and to be able to show that the association meets the same conditions as an approved Belgian institution. A foreign association is not required to issue a Belgian tax certificate. We will gladly send you the documents we hold: write to us.

Questions we are asked

What is the tax reduction rate for a gift to Remember Me France?

66% of the amount given, as a direct reduction of your French income tax. The rate comes from article 200 of the French tax code and applies to associations recognised as serving the public interest, which Remember Me France is.

Is there a ceiling?

Yes, the reduction applies up to 20% of your taxable income. If your donations exceed that ceiling nothing is lost: the excess carries forward over the next 5 years with the same benefit.

Why not 75%, like some associations?

The 75% rate is reserved for organisations helping people in hardship and victims of violence, up to €2,000 of donations a year. Animal welfare does not fall within that scope. For Remember Me France the rate is 66%.

When will I receive my tax receipt?

Immediately by email for an online gift. For a transfer or a cheque, the association sends it once received. For a monthly gift, a yearly summary covers every payment.

Does a monthly donation give the same rights?

Yes. What counts is the total given during the calendar year. Support of €10 a month is €120 over the year, so €40.80 actually payable by you.

I do not pay income tax, does my gift still matter?

Just as much. The tax reduction lowers the cost for those who pay French income tax, but it changes nothing about what your gift funds at the shelter: care, food, sterilisations and journeys home.

I live in Belgium or Switzerland, do these figures apply to me?

Yes for Belgium, where the rate is 30% since 1 January 2025, with a minimum of €40 of gifts per year. The Belgian reduction covers institutions in the European Economic Area, so a French association qualifies. Keep your proof of payment: the Belgian authorities ask you to be able to show the equivalence, and a foreign association is not required to issue a Belgian certificate. For Switzerland, write to us, the rules there depend on the canton and on the recognition of the organisation.

What your donation funds, concretely

Veterinary care, food, sterilisations and journeys to France, Belgium and Switzerland. The dogs at the shelter are waiting for a family, and every euro shortens that wait.
